Governing Body Members' Profiles

Ms Cheryl Morgan-Muir (Chair/Co-opted)

I moved back to the UK with my family in 2007, after spending nearly 30 years in Germany and the Netherlands.

I have five children, four of whom are already adults and my youngest is currently attending HSLC. Two of my children completed their primary school education at Hornsea Burton Primary School.

My professional background is in psychotherapy, counselling and homeopathy; I am also trilingual. One of my main hobbies is reading books.

I have been a governor at Hornsea Burton, and in last few years for the Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation, for 8 years. I enjoy supporting the schools, the students, the staff and the governing body whilst we work together to create the best possible learning environment for our students to learn and achieve in. At Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation every child matters.

Mrs K Hylton (Co-Opted)

Having worked at Hornsea School and Language College for 32 years, holding the post of Assistant Head before retirement, I am delighted to join the governing body.

I am keen to involve myself in the life of the school and currently serve on the Teaching and Learning sub-committee. My experience as a performing arts practitioner means I am also particularly keen to support the development of the arts at Hornsea Burton Primary School.

I hope to serve you well during my term of office.

Rev T Minett-Stevens

I am the Vicar of Skipsea, Atwick and Hornsea (where I live in the vicarage) and have been in post since December 2017.

I lived in Hull for nearly 30 years, initially as a student at Hull University where I did a degree in mathematics. I then worked for some years with Sanctuary Housing in the rents office before retraining as a secondary school teacher of mathematics. I taught for some years in Hull schools, latterly as a Second in Department,   before I left to pursue ministry in the Church of England in 2012.

I studied for a degree in Biblical Studies and was ordained in 2014. I began a Master’s Degree while continuing my training as a curate in Scarborough which I completed in 2018.

I’m a trustee of some local charities through being Vicar and also a charity based in West Yorkshire that seeks to offer an opportunity to re-connect with nature and our sense of self through a mix of physical activities as a group and independent art projects over the course of a weekend. Currently we work mostly with refugees and asylum seekers.

I have been married for over 25 years and we enjoy spending our free time together in pursuit of all things science fiction related. I enjoy our lovely garden but ought to be more pro-active in dealing with the weeds, though it’s a wonderful space in which to sit and read both for pleasure and study purposes.

As a governor I hope to help the Federation achieve the very best for all the students in its care.

Mrs S Inns (Co-Opted)

I moved to East Yorkshire in 1981, I have 2 sons and one grandchild.  I attended Beverly College in 1999 studying City & Guilds Diploma in Business and Office Technology alongside other OCR applications. I completed the Level 4 Diploma in School Business Management in 2013.

I am the School Business Manager of Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation and have been in the role for several years. My career has mainly been in the private sector with companies associated in Finance and Accounting systems before working for East Riding of Yorkshire Council. I worked as an Administrator for a small village Primary School before starting at Hornsea Burton Primary School in 2003.

I am committed in supporting the values of the school to enhance the learning of all our pupils.

Mr M Parry (Co-Opted)

Hello. My name is Michael Christopher Parry and I have just been recently appointed as a co-opted Governor on the Governing Body of Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation.

My late wife and I trained to be Pooh Bear Readers and we spent many years doing voluntary reading with the children at Hornsea Burton Primary School. This gave us both a lot of satisfaction and we were proud of the children and what they achieved in their reading over the years. Since moving back to the area, I have started hearing children read at Skipsea Primary School.

I used to be employed for many years at a leading Mail Order Company in West Yorkshire and was awarded a gold watch for my services. I continue to have links with West Yorkshire and also in Italy due to close family members living there.

In 2013/14 I was President of the Hornsea and District Lions, another position which I cherished and indeed I continue to be a member of the local Lions.

I have plenty of hobbies including sport and I used to be a football referee for many years.

In addition, I do a lot of reading but my favourite hobby of all is classical music and in particular opera.

I am looking forward to working with the Governors, Staff, Pupils and their families across the Federation and I am proud to be associated with both of the schools.

Mrs B Thompson (Parent)

Hello my name is Billie-Jo Thompson; I grew up on our family farm in Ulrome and have lived in Skipsea now for over twenty years. I’m married with one daughter who has now started Skipsea School.

When leaving school myself I trained in childcare and have worked over the years in Local Authority schools and being manager at a private nursery both in West and East Yorkshire. I’ve been self-employed for over fifteen years working alongside my husband  in the motorcycle industry too.

When I get the opportunity I love to travel and see as much of the world as possible, but when at home my hobbies are decorating, gardening sewing and reading.

I am pleased and looking forward to having the opportunity to be part of the governing body for the Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation.

Mrs J Salvidge (Co-Opted)

As a former Teaching Assistant at Skipsea Primary School, I was delighted to be co-opted on to the Governing Body of the Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation in February 2020 to continue my association with both fantastic schools. I spent seven happy years at Skipsea and it is indeed a “special place to learn and succeed.”

Working in school was a career change for me as I had previously worked for NatWest for many years but left following the birth of my second child. I started my banking career in Hull and finished at the Hornsea Branch, which I managed whilst being supported by a fabulous team.

I now spend my time as a part time carer for my mum. I also have a little more free time to do other things too like gardening, walking and going to the gym. As well as my volunteer role as a governor I am also the treasurer for our local church.

I look forward to continuing to support everyone, staff, parents and carers, and governors to ensure children in our schools achieve in a happy, safe, secure and caring environment.
